Summary

In this very special episode, we interview Jacob’s father, Jim Miller, as he joined us earlier in the day on one of our photo drives. The three of us drove around northern Wisconsin and Upper Michigan to photograph a handful of waterfalls, hike in some beautiful county parks, and, surprise surprise, talk about photography. Special thanks to Jim Miller for being a great first guest and riding with us that day. We all had an amazing time.

In this episode, we discuss a little about how we got our online alias names, but the main idea is about revisiting the past in your work.  Going back and editing shots over or finding gems we may have overlooked or forgotten.  Many of us have archives of old images, both film and digital.  Bringing the past back to the future is a great way to spark our passion for photography.

Summary

In this episode we discuss our experiences with being assistants as well as being assisted by others.  There are so many benefits to being an assistant for someone that you truly admire and look up to. Being part of a team is great and is a great way to grow. It is also important to learn to ask for assistance when you need it and be respectful about it.  Be thankful for their help and let them know you appreciate the extra hand.  You learn to communicate and work as a leader rather than taking all of the credit for yourself.

Summary

There seems to be this weird concept by some people we encounter that you are not a true photographer if you edit your photographs in photoshop or manipulate the images you capture.  Photography is derived from the Greek phot- for “light” and -graphos for “drawing” is the art, science, and practice of creating durable images.  We have the right as a photographer or “light painter” to edit and create an image that we envision. (Big thanks to Aaron R. Lindemann for sharing that concept of photography with us recently.)

Get Off Your Couch!

April 16, 2013 — Leave a comment

Get out there and photograph the world.

Thursday will be the release of Episode 3: Road Trippin.  We really wanted to do a podcast right from the car we drive in to go photograph places we have never seen or just really have always admired.  So get ready for a real time road trip and hear why it’s important to get off your couch, get out of your house, take a walk, meet up with friends and just appreciate the areas of the world that we live in.

One more thing.

If you haven’t yet, please let us know your thoughts on the podcast.  What would you like to hear?  Is there something you think would be a good topic to talk about?  We plan on having some special guests on here soon and talk about how they made their journey with photography.  If you could be so kind to leave us a written review and rating on iTunes, it would be much appreciated!  You can find us on iTunes here: Photo Drives on iTunes.

Word on the street….

Gary and I have been overwhelmed with the positive comments about our new podcast here at Photo Drives.  Honestly, we were a bit worried that no one would care what we had to say, but it has been amazing to hear everyone’s thoughts. Regardless of audience size or feedback, we would have still moved forward with this.  Likes, retweets, shares, download counts and play counts don’t really matter, but we hope that Continue Reading…
